ASNV on July 13th submitted comments to the National Park Service regarding plans for repair and reconstruction of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. This construction could have negative effects on bald eagles nesting near the parkway.
“ASNV believes that the National Park Service should adopt clear limits on construction and tree removal activities near the existing nest and near any other identified bald eagle nests in or near the project area,” wrote ASNV Board President Tom Blackburn. “Development of an Eagle Conservation Plan before the beginning of project construction would confirm the necessary restrictions to comply with the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and guidance issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.”
