Sky Meadows Butterfly Walk

  • Sky Meadows State Park 11012 Edmonds Lane Delaplane, VA, 20144 United States (map)

Aren’t you delighted when you spot a tiger swallowtail in your garden or a monarch butterfly on your local patch of milkweed?  Most of us are and we like to broaden our butterfly recognition as well.

Our July butterfly walk is the perfect opportunity to identify and learn about some of the many amazing butterflies we have in Northern Virginia.

Join Leader Mary Alexander for a morning butterfly walk at Sky Meadows State Park at 10:00 on Sunday, July 14.  This park has great butterfly habitat and we’ll have a fun walk to find as many species as we can.

Mary is a longtime butterfly devotee.  She’s a Master Naturalist and a Roving Naturalist with Fairfax County Park Authority. She has earned her Certification in Natural History Field Studies from the Audubon Naturalist Society.

See below for directions.  Bring hat, sun screen, insect repellant, water, and binoculars.  Those who pack a lunch are welcome to picnic at the park after the walk.  Entry requires State Park Pass or Fee.

Getting there:  From I-495, take I-66 west 42 miles to exit for Route 17 North (Delaplane, Paris). Go north on Route 17 for 6.5 miles to Route 10.  Turn left into park and proceed 1 mile to Visitor Center.  Meet leader in Parking Lot.  11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane, 20144
