Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve Planting Day

  • Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve 6401 George Washington Memorial Parkway Alexandria, VA United States (map)

ASNV members have the opportunity to participate in the third and final planting day at Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. September 19. Meet at Dyke Marsh next to the Haul Road trail. The National Park Service will provide tools, gloves, and water.

Funded in part by contributions from ASNV, volunteers since spring have planted hundreds of native trees and other plants at Dyke Marsh to restore an area overwhelmed by non-native or invasive plants (for more information, visit this page). The planting, which has involved 60 native species, is an initiative of the Friends of Dyke Marsh in partnership with the National Park Service, Earth Sangha, and ASNV. The Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, a National Park Service unit of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, is a freshwater, tidal marsh on the Virginia side of the Potomac River in Fairfax County near Alexandria.
